Home Euthanasia

  • In-home euthanasia will give you and your pet the peace of mind of spending their last moments where you are both most comfortable. The visit will be unhurried and stress-free. You will be able to grieve openly in the privacy of your own home.

Your pet will be given a sedative injection so they will be comfortable and pain-free. This also provides a wonderful opportunity to spend time with your pet while this is taking effect. After, your pet will be in a deep, and comfortable sedation.

Once you and your pet are ready, the veterinarian will inject the euthanasia solution. The veterinarian will then check to ensure your pet has passed.

If you have chosen cremation, your pet will be placed in an aftercare bag and taken to the vehicle. You are most welcome to assist with this if you wish. The veterinarian will transport your pet to the office for pick up by the crematorium.

  • We encourage all family members, including children, and all those who have loved the pet to be present. Animals also experience feelings of loss. Other pets in the house are most welcome to be present.

Feel free to plan something to commemorate the occasion, such as a speech, song, music, poetry, or photographic slide show – whatever you feel appropriate to mark this special life.

Current public health guidelines at the time of the visit will be respected. Please see our COVID biosecurity protocol.

  • In-home euthanasia costs more than going to your regular clinic because we are coming to you. The entire price of the visit will depend on your pet and the particular aftercare services you choose.

Please contact us at 519-265-4639 or email us at contact@animalsintransition.ca so we can provide you with an estimate for your particular circumstances.

Aftercare

  • You can choose to bury your pet at home if municipal by-laws and/or landlord policies permit.

We offer cremation services for your pet through Gateway Pet Memorial Services. If you have chosen cremation for your pet, they are respectfully placed in an aftercare bag and taken to the vehicle. Brooke Mobile Veterinary Hospice Services will transport your pet for pick up by Gateway directly.

  • If you choose an individual cremation, your pet’s ashes will be returned to you in a personalized urn. If you choose communal cremation, your pet ashes are not returned to you, as they are cremated with other pets. The ashes are distributed in one of Gateway’s dedicated pet cemeteries.

  • Please refer to the Guide to Burying Your Pet PDF.
