In-Home Euthanasia
Bringing end-of-life services to your home in your pet’s time of need
If you have made the difficult decision to say goodbye to your beloved pet, Brooke Mobile Veterinary Services will come to your home and perform the euthanasia where you and your pet are the most comfortable.
Why choose in-home euthanasia for your pet?
You are encouraged to take as much time with your pet as you want to, both before and after the procedure. There is no noisy clinic atmosphere, which pets find very stressful. You and your family will have the privacy to express your grief in your own home. You can take comfort in knowing your pet’s final moments will be where they are the most comfortable and surrounded by the people they love the most.
What to expect during the visit
First, your pet will be given a sedative injection so they become completely relaxed and pain-free. This is a wonderful opportunity for your family to spend time with your pet in these final moments while the sedation takes effect. Your pet will be in a deep sleep.
Once you and your pet are ready, the veterinarian will make another injection for the euthanasia. Most sleeping pets pass quickly and peacefully. The veterinarian will then check to ensure your pet has passed.
After the euthanasia procedure
After the euthanasia, you might want to bury your pet at home or have them cremated.
At-Home Burial
If you wish to bury your pet after an in-home euthanasia, your city/town may have bylaws to protect wildlife and the environment. See our Guidelines for Burying a Pet for more information.
Cremation
If you choose cremation, your pet will be placed in a special aftercare bag and taken to our vehicle. You are welcome to help if you wish. Brooke Mobile Veterinary Hospice Services will transport your pet for pick up by Gateway Pet Memorial cremation services. There are two options available for you: Private Cremation and Communal Cremation
Is our in-home euthanasia service right for you?
Saying goodbye at home allows your pet to feel safe and loved in their final moments. We're honoured to offer this service to help make their last appointment as calm and comfortable as possible.
Because we will be visiting your home, we kindly ask for a few preparations to make the process smooth and respectful for everyone involved.
Easy access to our vehicle
If we are taking your pet with us, please leave a parking spot close to the house available for our vehicle.
Smoke-free environment
Please provide a smoke-free area for the procedure. This applies to tobacco, incense, and recreational substances.
Location consideration
If we are taking your pet with us, it is helpful to choose a location on the main floor for the visit. If your pet is over 20kg and needs to be carried on full flights of stairs, we ask that you provide assistance for that or let us know so we can make arrangements. Any stairs must be in good condition and maintained in snowy, icy conditions.
Larger pets (over 40kg)
If we are taking your pet with us, extra assistance will be required if your pet is over 40 kg. Arrangements will be made in advance so you are aware of any additional costs.
Pricing for in-home euthanasia
This service includes the house call, sedation, euthanasia procedure, and technician assistance. This price does not include cremation. See Private Cremation or Communal Cremation for additional options.
